Pixel 7 Not Ringing on Incoming Calls (Troubleshooting Guide)

Pixel 7 Not Ringing on Incoming Calls

If you own a Pixel 7 and have been experiencing issues with your phone not ringing on incoming calls, you’re not alone. Many users have reported this problem, and it can be quite frustrating to miss important calls due to this issue.

In this troubleshooting blog article, I will go through a series of steps to help you identify the root cause and resolve the ringing problem on your Pixel 7. For those that are looking for quick answers:

The step to take when your Pixel 7 is not ringing on incoming calls is to make sure the ring volume is turned up and ensure that the “Do not disturb” mode is disabled. If that doesn’t work, try restarting the network on services or rebooting your phone.

Of course, there are also other potential reasons your phone might not ring properly. So let’s look at all of the potential root causes and troubleshooting steps in more detail.

Check the Volume and Sound Settings

First and foremost, make sure your phone’s volume is turned up and not set to mute. Go to Settings > Sound & vibration and ensure that the Ring & notification volume is turned up.

Turn Pixel 7 Ring Volume Up

If the ring & notification volume has been turned down, adjust the value of the volume to at least mid-level and try ringing your phone again.

Ensure Do Not Disturb Mode is Off

The “Do Not Disturb” mode is specifically built for muting any incoming notifications and/or ringing sounds and thus can prevent your Pixel 7 from ringing during incoming calls. Go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Do not disturb and ensure it is turned off.

Additionally, check the schedules and exceptions to ensure silent mode is not applied and that they are not causing the issue.

Restart Your Phone

Sometimes a simple restart can fix various software-related issues, including the Pixel “not ringing” issue you are currently having. So go ahead and press and hold the Power button on your Pixel 7, then select “Restart” from the options that appear.

Disable Caller ID & Spam

Call screening (Caller ID & Spam) can help you get information about callers or businesses and detect potential spam callers. In some cases, it can unintentionally also interfere with incoming calls that you actually intended to receive.

For troubleshooting purposes go ahead and disable Caller ID & Spam by going to the Phone app > Settings > Caller ID & Spam > disable the “See caller and spam ID” option.

Now try calling your Pixel 7 again from another phone and see it now magically starts ringing again. If not, then proceed with the next steps in the article.

Restart Wireless Services

Turn on the Airplane mode for 10 seconds and then turn it off again to restore all the wireless services on your phone. This is very similar to rebooting your phone and it may very well fix the ringing issue.

Swipe down from the top of the phone screen to access Quick Settings and find the airplane icon to toggle the Airplane mode on and off.

Verify the Ringtone

Make sure your phone has a valid ringtone set that actually rings and is properly audible. Go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Phone ringtone and check the current ring tone and switch between other melodies to detect a potential issue.

Check Call Forwarding Settings

The next step is to ensure that your calls are not being forwarded to another number (call forwarding enabled). Although, when enabled, the functionality also shows a dedicated icon in the phone’s toolbar you can also check it manually:

  • Open the Phone app
  • Open Settings
  • Select Calling accounts
  • Click on the SIM card you are using
  • Select Call forwarding
  • Disable all call-forwarding entries

If call forwarding was indeed enabled, you should now successfully be able to receive calls again after disabling the functionality.

Clear the Phone App Cache

Clearing the phone app cache can sometimes help resolve general bugs and issues related to calling and receiving phone calls. It might also make your phone ring again with incoming calls.

To clear the cache of your phone app on the Pixel 7, go to Settings > Apps > locate and select Phone > Storage & cache > Clear cache.

See if after clearing the cache your phone starts ringing again when receiving incoming calls.

Reset Network Settings

Resetting network settings can help resolve temporary hiccups and overall problems with call reception. In order to reset the network settings on your Pixel 7 you have to go to Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth > Reset settings.

In addition to solving temporary hiccups, resetting wireless settings on your phone might help to solve unintentional configuration issues that might have been unexpectedly introduced.

Note! Resetting network settings will erase any configured and saved Wi-Fi networks (including users/passwords) along with all the paired Bluetooth devices which you will have to manually pair again.

Update your Device Software

Google is great at shipping improvements and bug fixes via regular software updates. Sometimes, however, these updates might introduce new unexpected bugs to the system which are fixed in newer software releases.

Go ahead and check for any available software updates, as they may fix the current ringing issue. Go to Settings > System > System update > Check for update.

Apply all the updates that are available and after installing (with potential reboots), check if your phone is ringing again.

Factory Reset (Last Resort)

If none of the above solutions work, you may need to perform a factory reset. Remember that this will erase all data on your phone, so make sure to back up your data first.

In order to perform a factory reset on your Pixel 7, go to Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset) > Erase all data.

I hope this troubleshooting guide has helped you resolve the ringing issue on your Pixel 7. It’s essential to go through each step in order to identify the root cause and fix the problem. If the issue persists after trying all the steps, it might be best to contact Google Support or visit an authorized service center for further assistance.
